About

Built between 1960 and 1966 for electricity production, irrigation, and flood prevention, the Vidraru Dam is the tallest dam in Romania, with a height of 166 meters, as well as the largest arch dam in the country. The lake has an area of 1,000 hectares and a volume of 465 million cubic meters.
The Vidraru Dam is a major tourist attraction. The clean air, clear blue water, natural beauty, and peaceful views make this an excellent place for recreation.

Various water sports can be practiced on the dam's reservoir, and the water surface is also accessible for boat trips.
For fishing enthusiasts, there are perfect spots for this type of activity, and for camping lovers, Lake Vidraru is renowned for the camping areas found around it.
The top of the Vidraru Dam offers an unforgettable view, and the lake and dam are dominated by the Iron Man, an imposing statue by sculptor Constantin Popovici, depicting the mythological hero Prometheus with lightning bolts in his hands—the symbol of electricity.
