About

One of the most valuable historical monuments of Câmpulung is the Negru – Vodă Feudal Ensemble. It includes the church, which is dedicated to "The Assumption of the Mother of God", the infirmary or the chapel, the bell tower, the Royal House, the abbey and the cells. The monastery church is home to the oldest funeral slab of a Romanian ruler preserved up to the present day. It belongs to Nicolae Alexandru Basarab and represents the oldest epigraphic document of those times. At the Negru-Vodă Monastery in Câmpulung are the relics of Saint Pious Ioanichie the New from Muscel, protector of Christian families, intercessor for those who want to bring children into the world and healer for those in distress. Saint Pious Ioanichie the New from Muscel passed away in 1638, after 30 years spent in a cave on the Dâmbovița River Valley.
