About

The Princely Church is one of the oldest and best preserved monuments in medieval Romania. As period of construction, the church is framed at the beginning of the state existence of Wallachia. It was raised during the reign of the first three Wallachia voivodes: Basarab I, founder of the dynasty, his son Nicolae Alexandru and his nephew Vladislav Vlaicu I. The church was built in Byzantine style, the exterior being beautifully decorated with a pattern that alternates bricks with river stones. The exceptional value of this church is given by the painting of an extraordinary quality, dating from the fourteenth century.
